Get Involved Fundraising Fundraising For most children singing, dancing and making lots of noise are some of the earliest ways in which they express themselves, gain a sense of identity, join in with other children and have fun. Though profoundly disabled children are usually denied this experience because it is impossible for them to take part in usual childhood activities. They can remain isolated in a silent and static world, unable to express themselves or join in. We offer children and young people with their families and carers regular Saturday music sessions which encourage absolutely everyone to join in in their own way. Whatever sound someone makes, it’s music, and it’s very exciting for young people who do not often have much control over things to have the chance to influence the way the music flows and make as much noise as they like. Staff in special schools find the training we provide to be empowering and inspiring. The techniques and tools we use in our training have enabled staff supporting pupils and young adults with disabilities to be confident and creative in the way they use music and sound to engage with children with PMLD and other complex learning disabilities. Staff have expressed how effective implementing the training they receive from Soundabout has been on the lives of the pupils they teach and support. The simplicity and efficacy of our techniques enable staff with little or no musical backgrounds to be effective communicators using music and sound as a medium for interactions. How You Can Support Us Soundabout relies on grants from Charitable Trusts and Foundations to support its work as well as individual and group fundraising initiatives such as open days, sponsored walks and runs, auctions and concerts. However, we still need your support to raise approximately £250,000 each year to maintain our services. If you would like to help Soundabout to continue its work of reaching out to children and adults who have severe learning disabilities with our special brand of music, rhythm and sound communication, please donate. Your support really makes such a difference.
